Thanks for the kind words, Troy.

I didn't know that Treeless Mountain was partly autobiographical until I read your review. It makes me suspect that In Between Days has a similarly personal current winding through it, as it is as much about the immigrant experience as it about how awkward and awful teenage love can be.

Wonderful review here. This is a great summation of what makes things work so well:
"It would be excruciating to spend ninety minutes with the child characters from most films, but Jin possesses none of the forced charm or creepy adult mannerisms of such creatures. She is authentic and complex, alternately quiet, bold, manipulative, sulky, thoughtful, and quixotic. No mere cloying assemblage of adult neuroses, Jin behaves as a real child would in her circumstances. "

I also like the comparison of Hee Yeon Kim to Catinca Untaru, as both performances lend a very natural, real feel to the proceedings.

The ability of Kim to get so much out of such minimal camerawork is something that always impresses me (although I know it bores many). I'm looking forward to watching IN BETWEEN DAYS in the upcoming weeks.
